A judge recently upheld The University of California’s right to deny credit for courses that teach religion over science. The UC says that students who have been taught (for example) creationism with the exclusion of evolutionary theory have not received the education needed to attend the school.

For a supposedly “separated” (i.e. “Separation of Church and State”) government (Is there a word for that?) far too many laws and policies have been influenced by religion.  One could argue that laws are rooted in a strict moral code applied to all of humanity.  Across the board humans know that stealing, and murdering are wrong, but what about less clear “morals?”  According to major religious groups, the following behaviours can all be considered sins:

-Sex before marriage

-Disrespecting parents

-Immodesty (i.e. wearing makeup, women wearing pants and tank tops, etc)

-Uncovering your head in public

-Looking a stranger in the eye

-Tattoos

-Piercings

-Eating meat

________________________________

Granted, many of these are simply cultural beliefs stemming from religious communities, but you get the picture.   If these religions were allowed to rule a country- you could be arrested for having sex, getting your ears pierced, eating a steak, or saying hello to someone on the street.

Our government is currently allowing religion to dictate laws regarding:

-Homosexuality (bans against marriage, adoption, sodomy, etc)

-Prostitution (immoral according to who?)

-Polygamy (who’s to say that “our” religion is right and “theirs” is wrong?  Aren’t we supposed to be free to practice our religions without persecution?)

-Abortion (Is the fetus alive or not? We each have the right to make that choice for ourselves)

The supposed “ideals” of our founding fathers preach freedom and equality, but somewhere along the way someone neglected to mention that “ideals” have a clearly Christian focus.  You don’t see any major religion spewing lies and preaching to everyone within earshot about their laws and recruiting non-believers the way Christians do.  Do you see Jews lobbying for the forced circumcision of all newborn baby boys?  No.  Do you see Buddhists lining up to protest outside stockyards? No.  The ONLY people you see forcing their way into the laws and minds of this country are the Christians!

How DARE a group assume that they have the right to push their ideals onto everyone else.  Guess what- they have been doing it for centuries!!!!!  Christians have infiltrated every country on this earth trying to convert people.  Can anyone say “Missionaries?” Let’s talk about the crusades and the wars started by religion.  The key to obliterating this mess and ensuring equality for everyone is tolerance. You might call me hypocritical for using the word “tolerance” in an anti-christian rant, but I do not believe that people borne of religious ignorance and a false feeling of supremacy deserve tolerance.

“Flat-Earthers” August 13, 2008

It may be a bit hypocritical of me to bash a conspiracy theory, but this one is just ridiculous…

According to an article in the BBC News this week, there is a whole community of people who believe the earth is not round.  They believe that the earth is a giant disc framed by chunks of Antarctica with the North pole in the center.  If this were true, they say, no one would fall off the edge of the earth because “Circumnavigation is a case of traveling in a very broad circle across the surface of the Earth.’”

Example of a Flat Earth map

Example of a "Flat Earth" map

To me this screams “BULLSHIT!”  How can you deny the scientific, mathematical evidence that has been collected since the 4th century B.C.E.?  “Flat-Earthers” see this as an example of humans believing what they are told regardless of the lack of proof.  You don’t have to be a scientist, mathematician, or astronaut to see that the earth is round- simply fly on a PLANE and see the earth’s curvature for yourself.

And honestly- who would profit from such a “conspiracy?”  Is someone making money every time a first-grader spins a globe in their classroom, or every time someone says “global?”

Epidemics… August 7, 2008

I am a big fan of the morbid and gross.  It is no surprise that as a kid the most interesting part of health or history classes was learning about a rare disease or an ancient plague.  This page has a complete list of plagues from around the world dating back to the 14th century.

…this woman is DUMB AS BRICKS.

What kind of idiot keeps flapping her jaws in front of the press and has the nerve to say that “her granddaughter’s safety may be in jeopardy if conversations between her and her daughter Casey are open to public scrutiny.” [Source]

Cindy and Caylee

All along Cindy has claimed that Casey knows the whereabouts of Caylee.  If this were true, and if she was ANY KIND OF DECENT MOTHER, she would have told someone where the little girl is!!!!!  What kind of mother puts herself before her child’s safety?

The chances of this little girl being dead are growing stronger and stronger each day.

I am really becoming addicted to posting Girl Crushes!

This is Sarah Roemer….she has starred in Asylum, and along side Shia LeBoeuf in Disturbia.

Sooner or later she’ll hit it big-time and there will be more than this paltry selection of photographs.

Any images not linked to a separate page are from her MySpace profile.

- Someone needs to put Miley Cyrus out of her misery (actually it’s mostly our misery)
